About this drama

Aspiring designer Tian Tian finds herself working as the personal assistant to Liu Xilai, an eccentric and narcissistic CEO with a secret phobia of the color red. After realizing that Tian Tian’s presence is the only thing that alleviates his condition, Xilai keeps her close, leading to a series of comedic encounters. Their forced proximity eventually transforms into a sweet and supportive office romance as they navigate corporate challenges together.

Who this is for

Viewers who want a short, fluffy CEO-and-assistant rom-com to unwind with after something heavy, especially fans of a goofy, self-adoring male lead who falls first. Skip it if you are tired of the CEO-Cinderella formula or want character depth; even fans call the plot predictable and thin.

Our take

A compact iQIYI web rom-com in which a narcissistic toy-company CEO who faints at the sight of red keeps the illustrator who seems to cure him close as his assistant. Viewers mostly enjoy the leads' bickering chemistry and Liu Yinjun's fussy, comic CEO, whose catchphrase 'unbelievable' became a running joke, and the short runtime leaves little room for boredom. The common complaints are a predictable formula, thin characterisation, a heroine whose feelings develop abruptly, and a male lead who puts his wants ahead of her career. It works best as pleasant, low-stakes filler rather than something weighty.

Pacing & content notes

Short 18 x ~28-minute episodes keep it brisk overall, but the leads only become a couple around episodes 10-13, and one reviewer found episode 17 slow; some viewers skipped through slow-motion scenes and a third couple's subplot.

Heads up

  • Mild love triangle and second male lead
  • Male lead costs the heroine an overseas training opportunity, which is never fully addressed
  • Fainting/blood-phobia played for comedy
