About this drama
After being reborn into the prehistoric era, former terminal patient Li Changshou becomes a low-level cultivator obsessed with survival and avoiding karmic entanglements. Adhering to his steady philosophy, he hides his powers and avoids danger to seek immortality in peace. However, his quiet life is disrupted when his master brings home a new junior sister, forcing the cautious protagonist into a series of earth-shattering celestial conflicts and power struggles.
Who this is for
Best for viewers who want a xianxia comedy with a scheming, ultra-cautious hero who wins by planning rather than brute force. Skip it if you want romance at the centre, or if you dislike a show that turns noticeably more serious in its second half.
Our take
Ao Ruipeng gets near-universal praise; reviewers say the over-cautious, secretly capable lead fits him perfectly, and much of the humour comes from the gap between his hidden plans and what others think is happening. The first half is widely described as delightful. The most common complaint is that the show changes tone around the midpoint, the hero loses his goofy edge and can come across as cold or manipulative, and some jokes start to repeat. Viewers also mention a crowded cast of factions, effects-heavy battles and a rushed finish, though some fans found the last episodes the most moving part. Romance is a side element.
Pacing & content notes
The first half is consistently fun; around the midpoint the tone gets heavier and some viewers lose interest. The world-building and cultivation detail can drag, and the final stretch feels rushed because a very long novel is compressed into 30 episodes.
Heads up
