About this drama
Lu Sen is a brilliant chairman living in isolation due to a life-threatening allergy to human touch. When he requests a high-tech android companion named Friday, a technical glitch forces a young woman, Yang Shanshan, to secretly pose as the robot. As Shanshan maintains her robotic disguise while living in his home, the two develop an unexpected bond that begins to heal Lu Sen’s emotional and physical isolation.
Who this is for
Fans of light sci-fi romcoms and fake-identity setups who enjoy slapstick humour and a gentle, healing romance. Viewers who already know the Korean original I'm Not a Robot may find it too familiar, and anyone wanting a tight, realistic plot should look elsewhere.
Our take
An official remake of the 2017 Korean drama I'm Not a Robot, it follows most of the original plot while adjusting several supporting arcs. Sun Qian's energetic, slapstick performance as a woman pretending to be an android is the standout element, with her deliberately unconvincing robot act driving much of the comedy. The premise is lighthearted and the leads' interactions are warm, though viewers familiar with the Korean original are often critical of the darker turn in the supporting storyline.
